Re: Mung Cultivation

Cultivation of Green Gram-
- Sow the seed by the first fortnight of June. Treat seed with rhizobium @ 250 gm per 10 kg of seed.
- Maintain the spacing of 30 cm between the two rows and of app.10 cm between two plants.
- Required seed rate per ha. is 15-20 kg.
- Vaibhav is the variety which is recommended both for summer and kharif season. This variety is resistant to Powdery mildew( bhuri) and yields around 12-14 qtls. per ha.
- Carry out one light hoeing and one weeding 3-4 weeks after sowing.
- Add 6-8 tonns of FYM or compost per ha.at the time of harrowing. Provide the crop with 50 kg urea and 150 kg single super phosphate per ha. at the time sowing.
- Give two protective irrigation at the time of flowering and at the time of pod filling, if there is no rainfall.
- To control the powdery mildew and white fly on green gram take one or two sprays of sulphur 1250 gm + monocrotophos 550ml mixed in 500 liters of water.
- yield- 10-14 qtls per hectare.

Re: Mung Cultivation

Can you please provide details about irrigation schedule for summer green gram? (note - equipment available - sprinkler set)

Where can we buy vaibhav variety? when is the right period for sowing summer green gram.

I am opting for greem gram over ground nut mainly because water requirment for summer green gram is less compared to groundnut. I believe my assumption is right?

Thanks

Re: Mung Cultivation

1. In several parts of India, mungbean is grown in summer season also. The crop is sown in March to early April and harvested in May and June.

2. Timely sowing of summer mungbean is more important. The delay in sowing affects the yield adversely. The late-sown crop may be caught by the early monsoon rains at harvesting time which may create a problem for harvesting and threshing and ultimately the yield is reduced.

3. Summer mungbeans may be grown only in the areas where adequate irrigation facilities are available.

4. In general, 3-5 irrgations are required for mungbean in summer season, as increase in moisture supply due to irrigation, significantly increases the yield. You can supply irrigation according to soil moisture situation.

5. Vaibhav is recommended by M.P.K.V.Rahuri for Kharip and summer season.
- Attractive green seeds,
- Higher yield- 12-14 qu/ha.
- Resistant to powdery mildew.
- Crop duration- 70-75 days.
You can contact to M.P.K.V.Rahuri, for purchase of seed.
