Re: Hydroponic Fodder

Hydroponic Fodder is new concept for foder production especially in western countries. As far as my openion ,i felt that we have enough land as well as enough sunlight than western countries. So our focus should be on growing advance varieties of fodder varieties recommended by various research institutes in different localities.See,we have perennial & seasonal fodder varieties eg.Haybrid Napier- RBN-13 which now recommened nationally is perennial cereal fodder crop & RLS-88 Lucerne is perennial leguminous fodder crop.So the aspect of fodder production through suitable cultivation system should be focused first than the costlier systems ,may be which are not suitable in our climate.
If you need expert advice, please contact at following addresses of Krishi Vigyan Kendra where experts of animal/veterinary sciences or agronomist will give openions on hydroponic fodder systems. The link is as follows:-

Re: Hydroponic Fodder

In western countries, most of the period of year is under snow.so they use system of silage maiking in the period when there is suffient amount of fodder is available. In our country also silage is very useful. Those farmers who have less or no land is available for raising fodder crops they can use silage making practice.
In silage cereal green fodders are chaffed and preesed in tank or pit in such a way that inside air will expell & no air will remain in pit or tank.In this atmosphere living plant cell consumes oxygen so that other organisms like bacteria or fungi can not grow in it,ultimately there is no danger of putrifying the faooder material inside the pit. After 45-60 days ,in silo pit the chaffed fodder converted in to silage due to fermentation activities in the presence of CO2 by the yeasts. In silage plant sugar is converted in Lactose & dairy farmer can use it in the place of green fodder. You can give at least 20 kgs of silage to your animals. It is not expensive & realy helpful to dairy animals.
Fpr details you may see following link for getting some ideas about silage.
